Meet Ellie
Ellie loves the ocean more than anything, and she has a very special gift: she can talk to the animals who live there! With the help of her reef friends, Ellie discovers the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and learns about the challenges it faces.
When she finds out the reef is in trouble, she dives into an underwater adventure to understand why and discover how she can make a difference. Brave, curious, and full of heart, Ellie shows that even the smallest explorers can help protect our oceans.
Meet Bubbles
Bubbles is a friendly and playful bottlenose dolphin who calls the waters around Lady Elliot Island her home. Known for her cheeky personality and love of chasing trevally, Bubbles has become a local reef celebrity and a favourite among snorkellers and visitors alike. She often pops up in the Coral Gardens, welcoming snorkellers and showing off her underwater antics.
In Ellie’s Reef Adventures, Bubbles brings fun and friendship to Ellie’s journey while also helping her understand the reef and why it needs our protection.

About the Author
Amy Gash
Amy Gash is the author of Ellie’s Reef Adventures, a children’s book series inspired by her childhood growing up on Lady Elliot Island at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Raised in a family who are proud to be the current custodians of the island, Amy’s connection to the reef runs deep. Many of Ellie’s underwater friends, including Bubbles, are inspired by real-life encounters with the marine life Amy has grown up alongside. Guided by firsthand experiences and a lifelong commitment to sustainability, her stories gently educate and empower young readers to love, respect and protect our oceans.
About the Illustrator
Stephanie Elizabeth Lloyd
Stephanie is an Australian artist and illustrator with a deep connection to the Great Barrier Reef. An avid diver and snorkeller, she draws endless inspiration from its inhabitants, bringing them to life with vibrant whimsy. Since her first visit in 2020, Lady Elliot Island has become a favourite place for these encounters, where she photographs and sketches before translating her experiences onto paper and canvas in her Port Douglas gallery.
